Remembering the more than six million lives lost during the Holocaust, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Equalities, Altaf Hussain MS, said:
“We must never forget the unimaginable horrors that millions of people faced during the Holocaust. Sadly, the scourge of genocide on the human race has not gone away.
“The millions of Jews, Gypsies, Roma, disabled people and members of the LGBT community who faced persecution from this evil regime deserve to have their stories told as a lesson to us all.
“It is to the shame of the World that the lessons of the Holocaust have not been learnt. I urge everyone to combat antisemitism and all forms of racism wherever we encounter it.
“As we approach eighty years since the liberation of the concentration camps, now more than ever we must deeply reflect on the powerful accounts shared with us by the remaining survivors. May their bravery and commitment to speaking out against the horrors committed during the Holocaust continue to inspire the change we need, so that we may all live in society that is fully respectful of people’s religion, race, gender and sexual orientation.”
