The Welsh Conservatives have accused the Labour leader, Sir Kier Starmer, of wilfully ignoring his own parties record in government.
Commenting on the news, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Health, Russell George MS said:
“I am glad to see that, unlike Labour ministers in Cardiff Bay, the Conservatives are taking the pressures that the NHS is under seriously and responding to the issues.
“While the Prime Minister is holding crisis talks, the Labours Minister for Health has not made a statement to the Senedd since October and has been declining interviews.
“It is astonishing that Sir Kier Starmer can even think to criticise the handling of the NHS in England when Labour have run our NHS into the ground for almost a quarter of a century. The simple fact is that it was a Labour government that remains the only government to have ever cut an NHS budget. Sir Kier would be wise to reflect on that.
“Labour ministers need to stop avoiding responsibility, get an urgent grip on the scale of the crisis they have facilitated and stop breaking all the wrong records.”
