Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Covid-19 Recovery, Darren Millar MS, has given his support to an unprecedented letter from the North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council, which has been signed by more than 150 businesses from across North Wales within 24 hours.
The organisations are asking the First Minster of Wales to provide the evidence to justify the new restrictions which come into force on Friday, what support will be available and what future restrictions are likely so that they can plan.
Commenting on the letter, the Clwyd West MS said:
“This letter is truly unprecedented. For twenty years North Wales has been forgotten by successive Welsh Labour-led Governments, but this letter shows that people are fed up, ready to fight, and will not take these disproportionate new restrictions lying down.
“With less than 48 hours to go, the regulations still haven’t been published, leaving businesses in the dark and unable to plan for the future.
“To add insult to injury, businesses will have to wait until January before they can access the funding they so desperately need, which is likely to be too late for too many.
“The Welsh Government must rethink its new rules, get its act together and back those responsible Welsh businesses that have worked hard to adapt and implement Covid safe environments for their staff and customers; its time businesses got the support and encouragement they need.”
