Commenting on the fact that Morriston Hospital in Swansea has declared four Business Continuity Incidents (‘black alerts’) in the last four months, with one patient waiting five days in a chair, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Russell George MS said:
“Our Welsh NHS is under immense pressure thanks to 25 years of Labour’s under-resourcing, the extreme difficulties faced by Morriston Hospital are just the tip of the iceberg.
“The Labour Welsh Government finally need to follow our plan to spend the full Barnett uplift for health on our health service and enact a substantial workforce plan to boost staffing levels, with a tuition fee refund at its heart.”
In a joint statement, Welsh Conservative Senedd Members for South Wales West, Tom Giffard MS and Dr Altaf Hussain MS added:
“Morriston Hospital is crying out for support, perhaps more than any other Welsh hospital. We worry that Labour Government inaction is doing irreparable damage to the health and wellbeing of the people of Swansea – no patient should have to wait days for treatment, let alone in a chair.
“Instead, Labour have spent this week with Plaid pushing through their plans to create 36 more politicians, spending millions that should go toward easing the pressure on our Welsh NHS.”
