The Welsh Rugby Union has been warned by MPs that it risks alienating supporters, amidst growing concern over governance, transparency and the future of Welsh rugby.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Sport, Gareth Davies MS, said:
“It is no surprise the WRU has been labelled “out of touch”, given the growing frustration among fans over how the game is being run and the lack of clarity around plans to cut a professional region.
“The WRU already faced a monumental task in bringing supporters with them after proposing to cut a professional team, and this week’s rumours surrounding the Ospreys have only deepened concern and opposition among fans and players.
“Continuing to keep clubs and supporters in the dark while claiming to retain their support highlights how out of touch the WRU has become and risks lasting damage to Welsh rugby’s future.”
