Following the announcement that two drive through test centres are scheduled to commence Covid-19 testing in Llandudno and Carmarthen by the end of the week, Shadow Health Minister Angela Burns said:
“I have being putting pressure on the Welsh Government to make these test centres operational for over a fortnight and whilst today’s announcement is welcome, questions do remain why their openings have faced such delays.
“Convenient and accessible testing for COVID-19 is a key component in getting on top of this disease and vital as we move into phase two of tackling this pandemic.
“I remain greatly concerned that whilst the number of tests conducted in Wales has just passed 2000, this remains way off the Minister’s now abandoned plan to conduct 9000 tests per day.
“The Welsh Government must up its game on testing and I repeat my call for the introduction of dedicated team to manage and measure the testing programme to ensure that resources are best being employed in our ongoing fight against this disease.”
