Welsh Conservatives have welcomed the announcement that Cardiff will host the 2029 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final.

Following confirmation from the Football Association of Wales, Welsh Conservatives described the news as a major opportunity to showcase Wales and inspire the next generation of women and girls in sport.

Shadow Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Paul Davies MS, said:

“We warmly welcome the decision to bring the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final to our capital in 2029.

“Hosting one of the biggest events in women’s football will put Wales firmly in the international spotlight and provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything our country has to offer.

“It is particularly welcome that the bid includes a nationwide legacy programme aimed at increasing participation, improving facilities and creating more opportunities for women and girls.

“I congratulate the Football Association of Wales and everyone who worked on the successful bid. We look forward to seeing Cardiff welcome the best of European women’s football in 2029 and to Wales putting on another world-class sporting event.”
