Following reports that a Carmarthenshire school was placed into lockdown after threats were made against a pupil, leading to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of making threats to kill, the Welsh Conservatives have reiterated their concerns about rising violence in Welsh schools.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education, Natasha Asghar MS, said:
“The Welsh Conservatives have repeatedly raised concerns about rising levels of violence in our schools and this latest incident is deeply alarming.
“Teachers and pupils must feel safe in their learning environment, and the Labour Government must take immediate action to address the escalating violence we are seeing across Wales.
“The Welsh Conservatives would restore school safety and discipline by introducing automatic exclusions for pupils who carry weapons into school, tackling this growing crisis head-on, fostering a safer environment for students and staff and rebuilding trust between schools and families.”
