Commenting on the news that from the 31st of October, fully vaccinated passengers and most under 18s arriving in Wales from countries not on the red list can take a cheaper lateral flow test, on or before day 2 of their arrival, Welsh Conservative Russell George MS said:
“The British Government announced some weeks ago that testing on arrival would be simpler and cheaper for people who are looking forward to well-earned breaks for the October half term, yet Labour ministers only changed course at the last minute after concerted pressure from the Welsh Conservatives for an announcement.
“The Labour Government has rightly said in the past that there should be one consistent policy for travel, and I’m pleased this issue won’t be any different. This change will mean less confusion for holiday goers and leaves the British Government to continue setting border policy.
“So, whilst I welcome Labour ministers adopting this system, meaning hardworking families aren’t punished for travelling for work or visiting friends and family. Many people up and down Wales have once again been blindsided by a last-minute announcement that gives them no real time to prepare or adapt plans.”
