Commenting on the news that NEU Cymru members at Flint High School are to take strike action over workplace bullying and failures to tackle pupil behaviour, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Secretary, Natasha Asghar MS said:

“Labour have lost control in our schools and this situation highlights exactly why Wales needs a robust behaviour strategy to restore discipline and order in our schools.

“No teacher should feel unsafe or undermined in their workplace, and no child’s education should suffer because of poor behaviour that goes unchallenged. Labour’s failure to provide consistent support for schools has left too many staff and pupils facing disruption.

“The Welsh Conservatives will drive up standards and restore discipline by backing our teachers so they can deal with bad behaviour. We would ban mobile phones in schools, introduce immediate expulsions for anyone carrying a knife, detentions and suspensions for those who don’t respect the rules and deliver the safe, high-quality learning environment that every child deserves.”
