Ahead of Stage 3 of the Bus Services (Wales) Bill, Welsh Conservatives have continued to express concerns that that Labour’s proposals risk driving small, family-run bus operators out of business, failing rural communities, and doing little to tackle congestion or improve passenger services.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure, Sam Rowlands MS said:

“The Bus Bill is city-focused, it neglects rural communities and ignores the biggest issue holding back our bus network, congestion. Instead of supporting small, local operators, Labour is unfairly stacking the deck in favour of big national companies.

“Small and medium sized bus operators across Wales are really worried about the impact of this Bill. Once again, Labour is punishing small businesses, rural communities and passengers who simply want a reliable and affordable service.

“Although we remain fundamentally against the Bill, the Welsh Conservatives have submitted several amendments to ensure the Bill works for small bus operators, addresses congestion and puts passenger voices at the heart of the legislation.”
