During Spokesperson’s Questions to Labour’s Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and the Environment, Janet Finch-Saunders MS urged the Welsh Labour Government to engage with Dŵr Cymru over their plans to reduce their workforce by 12% cutting 500 jobs. Janet argued that making these drastic changes should be reviewed by the new incoming CEO next month and has called for the current CEO to appear before the Climate Change Committee for scrutiny.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and the Environment, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, said:
“With record pollution incidents and fines for underperformance, questions need to be answered as to how cutting so many employees will help deliver a better service.
“With water bills up 27% and 500 job cuts planned, it’s wrong for Dŵr Cymru to push ahead on such drastic changes without proper scrutiny.
“Labour must ensure these cuts are paused until the new Chief Executive takes office and the current Chief Executive must appear at committee to explain these job cuts, the Welsh Conservatives will always fight for accountability and fairness for Welsh families.”
