The Welsh Conservatives have called on the Plaid Cymru Welsh Government to provide further detail on how its childcare plans will be rolled out across Wales.
The Welsh Government has announced £55m of funding, including the expansion of funded childcare to more two-year-olds and £10m of capital funding to improve childcare settings.
While the Welsh Conservatives welcome additional support with childcare costs, they have said families and providers need greater clarity on long-term funding and whether there will be enough childcare places to deliver the offer in practice.
Commenting, Sam Rowlands MS, Welsh Conservatives Shadow Minister for Education and Families, said:
“Additional investment in expanding childcare is welcome, but funding should be focused on supporting working families to help grow the Welsh economy.
“Flying Start needs reforming so provision is better targeted at families who need support rather than the current postcode lottery.
“The Welsh Conservatives want greater clarity for families and providers on long-term funding and whether there will be enough childcare places to deliver this offer in practice.”
