Commenting on the news that tens of thousands of defibrillators across the UK risk being unusable because call handlers do not know about them, Welsh Conservative Russell George MS said:
“We’ve seen just this past week how pivotal a defibrillator can be, with one being used to help save a football fan who collapsed in the stands during Sunday's Premier League match in Newcastle.
“We have long called for these important life-saving pieces of equipment to be installed at sports clubs, and locations up and down Wales.
“However, it’s not just enough to have defibrillators in place, we need to see them registered with the NHS, extra training provided to call handlers and to raise awareness of their locations so we don’t needlessly lose another life.
“I hope to see Welsh Government working with the NHS to locate all the defibrators across Wales and make sure that cash is available for any additional defibs needed.”
