Welsh Conservative response 2,000 hospital-acquired Covid deaths story

Russell George

New data has shown over 2,000 people in Wales, who likely contracted coronavirus in hospital, went onto die.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Health Minister Russell George MS said:

“That a quarter of Covid deaths in Wales were caught in hospitals here is a source of great sadness for bereaved families and shows gaps in the robustness of Labour Government’s response to the pandemic.

“This is likely to be exacerbated by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer’s admission that frontline NHS staff in some Welsh hospitals were not regularly tested for Covid until the near the end of the second wave.

“This is another in a long list of reasons why we need a Wales-specific Covid inquiry that will give answers to the loved ones of those who have suffered or died as a result of the virus and lockdowns that the Labour Government is blocking.”
