South Wales East AM, Mohammad Asghar, has welcomed the prospect of a ‘Western Powerhouse’, which has been promoted today by the Conservative Secretary of State for Wales at the UK Government’s Severn Growth Summit.
This morning, Alun Cairns addressed 350 delegates at the Severn Growth Summit in Newport. Mr Cairns stated that it was “about time that we made politics fit business rather than business fit politics.”
Welsh Conservatives’ Mr Asghar said:
“South East Wales has so much potential but our economy has been hamstrung by the lack of ambition and poor record of delivery from Carwyn Jones and his Labour Government.
“Today’s summit and ‘Western Powerhouse’ initiative proposal by Alun Cairns is a welcome move in delivering greater prosperity for the region.
“The abolition of the Severn Bridge Tolls by the UK Conservative Government removes a huge economic barrier for businesses, and it’s vital this is exploited to increase cross-border collaboration and deliver the much needed boost to people’s pay packets.”
