Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted earlier today:
“Fantastic news that from the beginning of 2022 the people of America will finally be able to enjoy Great British lamb. The US is the second-largest importer of lamb and mutton in the world and this decision will give the UK sector an £18m boost.”
Commenting, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Rural Affairs Minister Samuel Kurtz MS said:
“The opening of the lamb export market to the US is a huge success story and will be of great benefit to our agricultural industry.
“Our farmers are hardworking, diligent and conscience and Welsh produce is rightly recognised across the globe for its high standard. I’m sure our American cousins will be delighted to have our finest lamb back on their menus.
“It's now vital that both the British and Welsh governments work together so even more of our fantastic farmers’ produce can reach new markets, strengthening our agricultural sector.”
