New Welsh Conservative policy director Suzy Davies AM has met the UK Culture Minister in Cardiff to discuss broadcasting in Wales.
Ed Vaizey MP was in Wales to meet with senior figures in the sector and discuss the role it plays in the Welsh economy and culture.
Also there was David Jones MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales.
Mrs Davies, also Shadow Minister for Welsh Language, Culture and Tourism, highlighted the continued need for a vibrant and sustainable broadcasting sector in Wales.
She said:
“It’s essential for Welsh cultural and political identity that we have a strong broadcasting sector that entertains, informs and reflects the distinctive character of our country.
“The National Assembly now has more powers, and as it develops and matures into its role as a legislating body, the crucial need for high quality news and current affairs also grows.
“I am delighted that the UK Minister for Culture continues to take a very active role in listening to views and opinions on the creative industries in Wales. He shares the widespread enthusiasm for developing the wealth of potential we have here.
“The new BBC drama village in Cardiff is an excellent example of just how the BBC capitalised on that potential and brought opportunity into Wales. What our home-grown creative industries can offer the rest of the world is just as important.”
