Commenting on the call for British industry to switch some production lines to manufacture ventilators in the struggle against Covid-19, Shadow Health Minister Angela Burns AM said:
“I know that engineers have already been asked to draw up plans to quickly produce more ventilators, and while acknowledging that it will not be without logistical difficulties – and issues over intellectual property – I am backing this push to the hilt.
“Wales, along with the rest of the United Kingdom, has some incredibly talented designers and world-leading engineering firms, and I urge anybody who has the manufacturing capability to turn to the manufacture of ventilators, to do that.
“Without exaggeration, this is – as Health Secretary Matt Hancock said – a ‘National Effort’, and the response to dealing with Covid-19 must be at this level.”
Mrs Burns said that any UK manufacturer with a capability to produce ventilators or source parts for ventilators should contact the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Business Support helpline on +44 (0)300 456 3565 or via ventilator.support@beis.gov.uk.
