Andrew RT Davies MS – the Shadow Health Minister – is calling for more of the Armed Forces to be brought in under the terms of Military Aid to Civil Authorities (MACA) to deliver the Covid vaccine rollout.
Mr Davies said that the Health Minister must consider all measures to speed up the delivery of the vaccine in Wales, including requesting additional support from the Armed Forces, adding:
“We’re rightly proud of our Armed Forces, which are already playing a key role in the rollout and have the manpower, the selfless dedication, the discipline, the logistical expertise and equipment to help our civil authorities during a range of crises.
“We’re in a crisis now, and with Wales slipping further behind the other UK nations in terms of the vaccination rollout, it’s critical that the Health Minister requests more support to get the programme up to speed.
“Wales has a number of barracks and air stations that cover all areas of the country and they are standing ready to help. Personnel and equipment from these must be considered to help out our nation in its time of need.”
