“The fact that no consideration is given to farmers mental health and wellbeing when developing agricultural policy is deeply concerning.
“Agriculture already has some of the highest incidences of suicide, with farmers mental health suffering under policies brought forward by the Welsh Government. Proper consideration of the impact these policies have on farmers must be given the Welsh Government need to make this so.”
Also Commenting, Sam Rowlands MS, Shadow Local Government Minister, said:
“When I speak to farmers and they highlight some of their mental health worries with me, they often point to Welsh Government policy decisions impacting on their mental health.
“One example is the current bovine TB policy from the Labour Government, which really has had, and still continues to have, a terrifying impact on the well-being of many farmers across Wales.
“I was left disappointed in the Minister’s answer and would hope that in future the Welsh Government would take farmer’s mental health into consideration before adopting harmful policies.”
