Natasha Asghar

Responding to the news that 60mph speed limits are set to be slashed to 30 in areas that already have 20mph roads, Natasha Asghar MS, Shadow Transport Minister, said:

“There is a genuine concern that introducing multiple speed limit changes will cause drivers to spend more time watching their speedometers than watching the road.

“With drastic sudden speed changes along busy stretches of roads due to Labour’s 20mph speed limit, dangerous driving conditions have been created and these new measures are now being introduced to mitigate potential accidents. We have seen the situation in Monmouth, where a stretch of road switches from one speed limit to another exceptionally quickly and my colleague Peter Fox has spoken up on the matter many times.’

“The Welsh Conservatives have maintained that appropriate speed limits should be applied in sensitive areas, not a wholesale approach that offers no safety benefits to road users.”
