Samuel Kurtz

Responding to the Welsh Government’s statement in the Senedd today on Tata Steel, Samuel Kurtz MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow said:

“Labour is trying to spin their Tata deal, saying it has more substance, when the reality is that it is practically the same deal negotiated by the previous Conservative UK government.

“There was a binary choice to be made: the steel works close with all jobs lost, or an assisted transition towards an electric arc furnace. I’m pleased that the UK Labour government have woken up to this reality, despite the false hope they gave workers in the run up to the general election.

“The UK and Welsh governments must work hard to ensure that the workforce and the community of Port Talbot aren’t left behind in this transition to electric arc made steel.”
