Samuel Kurtz

Responding to Labour’s Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero’s immediate ban on new North Sea oil drilling, Samuel Kurtz MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Economy and Energy said:

“To go against official advice and to bring forward the ban on new North Sea oil shows that this is a dogmatic, political decision, rather than one based in the reality of where we are today and pragmatism.

“Oil will continue to be needed for a number of years, even as we move towards a more renewable future. Sadly, all this decision will do is make the UK more reliant on imported oil and see prices go up for British people.

“This decision is economic self-harm, hurting British business and British people.”
