The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives has called on a Senedd committee to review the Welsh Rugby Union’s handling of sexism allegations following reports that it failed to act.
Andrew RT Davies MS has written to the Chair of the Welsh Parliament’s Culture, Communications, Welsh Language, Sport and International Relations Committee to “encourage the Committee to be able to find time to conduct a review into this pressing matter,” especially given the WRU is in receipt of public money.
Commenting, Davies said:
“These allegations are very concerning for an organisation at the heart of Welsh sporting culture, and a sport which many people in our nation hold dear.
“We need to see how the WRU investigated these accusations of sexism so people can have confidence in the union so they know that rugby can be played in Wales safely.
“I hope the Committee can make time to review this matter given the high levels of interest in the story, the serious nature of the allegations, and the role public money plays in the organisation.”
