Paul Davies AM, the Leader of the Opposition, has joined the Welsh Government’s Covid group.
The group meets each Wednesday morning to receive reports of the latest developments from the Chief Medical Officer and the NHS Wales Chief Executive.
Mr Davies said:
“In the same way that all agencies are working together to stem the spread of Coronavirus, it’s also the time for parties in Wales to work together.
“As such, I was pleased to accept the First Minister’s invitation to join the Covid group, put party politics aside, and keep our country and our people safe.
“However, as I have made clear to the First Minister, I will withdraw from the group if it hinders my ability to scrutinise the Government.
“As Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, I offer qualified support to the Welsh Government at this time. But I will not qualify any necessary criticism.
“On too many occasions already, the Welsh Government has been behind the curve. I will continue challenging them when they are.”
