Responding to the statement from the Minister for Further and Higher Education on developments in Initial Teacher Education, the Welsh Conservatives have criticised the workforce plan as not doing enough to address the immediate crisis of teacher retention and recruitment.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education Natasha Asghar MS said:
“After years of workforce pressures across further and higher education, this statement is long on process but short on delivery.
“Advisory groups and phased approaches will not solve the immediate recruitment and retention crisis facing our colleges and universities.
“What staff and learners need is decisive action to tackle workload pressures, improve support for newly qualified teachers and ensure Wales can compete with the rest of the UK in attracting top talent.”
