In response to growing concerns from educators and parents, the Welsh Conservatives have further criticised the Welsh Government’s approach to managing education in Wales. Recent comments from headteachers and independent reports have shed further light on the stark reality: our schools are underfunded, under-resourced, and struggling to meet the basic needs of students.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education, Natasha Asghar MS, said:
“Schools in Wales continue to face a multitude of issues due to Labour’s policies and chronic underfunding, we are seeing attainment levels fall, absenteeism soar, behavioural issues increasing and a teacher retention and recruitment crisis.
“Rather than exploring unwanted policies like their universally unpopular plans to rob our children of their summer holidays, Labour needs to get the basics right, fund education appropriately and recognise that schools are crying out for help here, rather than shifting blame to local councils.
“The Welsh Conservatives believe every child in Wales deserves access to a world-class education, and we will not stand by as the Welsh Government allows our education system to deteriorate. Welsh education is broken under Labour—only the Welsh Conservatives can fix it.”
