Labour’s Budget Pushes Tax Burden To Highest Level Since WWII As Welsh Households Suffer

During Spokesperson’s Questions, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Samuel Kurtz, highlighted that as a result of Labour’s disastrous Budget the overall tax burden has skyrocketed to its highest level since the Second World War, with £26 billion in tax rises, one-third of which is swallowed by an already bloated welfare bill. Leaving households across Wales with less money in their pockets.

Government spending is up, welfare spending is up, unemployment is rising, debt interest is climbing, inflation is up and growth and business confidence are both falling. Yesterday, during FMQ’s the First Minister refused to say whether she had confidence in the Chancellor.

Commenting following Spokesperson’s Questions, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Samuel Kurtz MS, said:

“Taxes are up, costs are up, growth is down, and Wales is being dragged down.

“Labour’s Budget has increased the tax burden to record levels, punishing hardworking families while propping up runaway welfare spending, it is simply unfair for hardworking taxpayers to be footing the bill for those who choose not to work.

“If the First Minister couldn’t bring herself to express confidence in the Chancellor, how can this Welsh Labour Government expect the people of Wales to do so?”
