Commenting after leading the debate in the Senedd, which among other proposals called for the reversal of cuts to Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW), Gareth Davies MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Social Care said:
“I welcomed the opportunity to highlight the damaging cuts to HIW that Labour is looking to squeeze through in their budget, given the significant inspection backlog HIW are having to deal with and the dire state of our health service here in Wales.
“While Labour focus on spending hundreds of millions on vanity projects like blanket 20mph and more politicians, the Welsh Conservatives would prioritise our Welsh NHS instead and reverse the cuts to HIW.”
Also commenting, after closing the debate in the Senedd, Russell George MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister said:
“It was bitterly disappointing to watch the Labour Welsh Government disregard key findings from the HIW report, including the fact that the Inspectorate could not find evidence of Labour initiatives having any effect on the frontline.
“This should have been a wakeup call for Labour, but once again they are refusing to listen to our sensible calls for a more reliable, resourced and accountable NHS here in Wales.”
