After 27 years of Labour, propped up by Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats, Wales is lagging behind the rest of Britain.

  • 1-in-4 Welsh people are on an NHS waiting list, thousands are waiting two years or more for treatment, and Welsh emergency departments are among the worst performing in Britain.
  • Wales is consistently ranked at the bottom of the UK league table for education standards, with soaring pupil absenteeism, and a teacher morale and recruitment crisis.
  • Wales has the lowest pay packets and highest economic inactivity rate in Great Britain.

In the Senedd today, the Welsh Conservatives emphasised their plan to fix Wales and get Wales working:

  • Cut taxes to boost growth, including a 1p income tax cut.
  • Save the NHS by declaring a health emergency, surge bed capacity, and cut waiting lists.
  • Scrap Stamp Duty on main homes to help people realise their ambition of home ownership.
  • Scrap business rates for pubs, post offices and small businesses to save our high streets and town centres.
  • Extend free childcare and give parents the chosen to nominate grandparents to be paid to care for their children.
  • Support farmers with a £100m boost, scrap Labour and Plaid's Sustainable Farming Scheme and replace it with a new scheme with food security at it's heart.
  • Improve infrastructure, including delivering the M4 relief road, upgrading the A55 and A40, and reversing default 20mph limits.
  • Cut waste, slash bureaucracy and focus on delivery.

Commenting after the debate, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS, said:

“Labour, propped up by Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems, has failed Wales.

“People want change, and only the Welsh Conservatives have a credible plan to deliver it.

“It is a plan to cut taxes, boost growth, and fix our public services.

“While it was no surprise that Labour, Plaid and Reform MSs voted against it today; fortunately the people of Wales will have the opportunity to endorse it on the 7th May so we can fix Wales and get Wales working!”

ENDS

The motion debated today read:

To propose that the Senedd:

1. Believes that 27 years of Welsh Labour Governments, propped up by Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats, have failed to improve the lives of the people of Wales, and that only the Welsh Conservatives have a credible plan to fix Wales and get Wales working
