Commenting on the Labour Economy Minister’s response to a pair of Welsh Conservative Written Questions on the level of financial support provided and offered by the Labour Welsh Government to Tata Steel and Port Talbot steelworkers, Welsh Conservative Shadow Economy Minister, Samuel Kurtz MS said:

“This is a shocking response from the Labour Welsh Government. They’re sat on their hands, waiting to be asked to support Tata, oblivious to the needs of the steelworkers.

“The UK Conservative Government have provided £80 million for education and retraining as part of the transition board and have put half a billion on the table to support Tata, but the Labour Government haven’t put forward a penny since 2019.

“Instead of finger pointing, blaming others, and taxpayer funded trips to India, it's high time the Welsh Labour Government stepped up to the plate to support these workers.”
