A Welsh Conservative investigation has revealed that Transport for Wales has spent a total cost of £14.2m on consultancy fees from February 2021 to March 2023.
Commenting on the investigation, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, Natasha Asghar MS said:
“To spend so much money on consultants, in such a short period of time is unbelievable, £14.2 million is an enormous sum of money. Surely it would have been more cost effective to hire a selection of experts permanently for the required roles, as opposed to paying such elaborate fees.
“With an additional spending of £4.5million on a bus replacement service discovered by Welsh Conservatives this week, the question must be asked; how much waste are taxpayers covering on the South Wales Metro project?
“The cost of the project is already spiralling out of control, we can only hope that recuperation costs are not eventually passed onto customers with inflated ticket pricing.”
