Commenting on his exchange with the First Minister in the Senedd today, regarding comments made by the Deputy Transport Minister where he described the Royal College of Nursing an “extremely militant organisation”, Welsh Conservative Leader Andrew RT Davies MS said:
“Today I questioned the First Minister, about comments made by the Deputy Transport Minister regarding the Royal College of Nursing. His derogatory statement was inappropriate and unhelpful during a time of negotiations and strikes.
“I asked whether the First Minister believes that there should be an apology, given that the RCN is a highly dedicated professional body that represents hardworking nursing staff who are so dedicated to those in their care.
“The comments are on the record, they reflect poorly on the Labour Government and it was disappointing to see the First Minister shrug them off as something said in ‘the heat of the moment’.
“Last week Mark Drakeford and his Labour colleagues voted for a Welsh Conservative motion criticising the Deputy Minister’s roads review.
“Lee Waters’ position must be in question given the lack of support his Labour colleagues have shown and his ill-judged comments about nurses.”
