The Welsh Conservatives have criticised Labour’s handling of the Menai crossings, warning that repeated delays, vague reassurances and a lack of accountability are undermining local communities and economic growth.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure, Sam Rowlands MS, said:
“This is ridiculous, people on Ynys Môn and across the Menai are going to have to wait five years for Labour to deal with these repairs.
“It's not just a minor inconvenience or something people should simply learn to live with. It represents a clear failure of project management by Labour, enabled by Plaid Cymru. These delays are having a real and lasting impact on local communities and the wider region.
“Those bridges keep our communities connected, support local jobs, enable tourism to take place successfully and need to be managed effectively. The Welsh Conservatives believe there is a need for a third Menai crossing to boost the economy of Ynys Môn and the wider region”
Also commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and the Environment, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, said:
“Labour have allowed the issues surrounding the Menai Bridge to build up over the past 27 years, with Plaid Cymru enabling those failures by repeatedly propping them up and voting through their budgets.
“People are understandably worried by the ongoing delays, the lack of clear timelines and the impact this uncertainty is having on local businesses and communities.
“What people want now is reassurance grounded in transparency: clear answers, a credible timetable, and confidence that lessons are being learned and acted upon.”
