Shadow Minister for Economy, Business and Infrastructure, Russell George MS, has reiterated calls for the Welsh Government to implement the Welsh Conservatives’ Seaside Town and Market Town Funds proposal.
Mr George issued the call following the UK Government’s unveiling of the Reopening High Streets Safely Fund which will provide £50 million for the safe reopening of high streets and other retail spaces.
He said: “To help mitigate further damage being caused by the Covid-19 pandemic to the economy, it’s vital that the Welsh Government answers Welsh Conservative calls to introduce our ambitious Seaside Town and Market Town Funds.
“The funds, which would enable communities to decide how it’s invested, would aid local businesses, as well as level up investment across Wales by pumping in £200 million over five years to regenerate and restore our vitally important local communities.
“Now, more so than ever, the Welsh Government needs to step up to the challenge we find ourselves in and deliver the funds to bolster the economy.”
