Green Leader Must Condemn “Vile” Anti-Semitism Within His Party, Says Darren Millar

The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar, has today called on Anthony Slaughter to unequivocally condemn anti-Semitic comments made by individuals associated with the Green Party.

Responding to reports of comments made by activists linked to Greens for Palestine, Mr Millar said the language used was “not just offensive - it is outright racist”.

Commenting, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS said:

“Describing Jewish people as an ‘abomination to this planet’, repeating conspiracy theories about Jewish communities staging attacks against themselves, and claiming that Jewish people ‘murder, bomb and starve’ children is vile and completely unacceptable in any civilised political movement.

“At a time when Jewish people across the United Kingdom, including here in Wales, already feel a heightened sense of fear and insecurity, this kind of rhetoric only serves to deepen that fear. That fear is real, and it is growing.

“I have visited synagogues on a number of occasions and have been saddened to see the need for security guards outside places of worship - something that should trouble every one of us who believes in a tolerant and respectful society.”

Mr Millar called on the Welsh Green Party leader to show clear leadership and take decisive action.

He added:

“Anthony Slaughter must now speak out clearly and unambiguously. He must make it clear that such views have no place in his party and set out what concrete steps he will take to root out anti-Semitism wherever it appears within his ranks.

“Anything less risks sending a message that this kind of hatred is tolerated.”
