Vale of Glamorgan School Governors have written to the Welsh Government and claim the decision may well be unlawful as it does not meet Welsh Ministers’ obligations under section 10 of the Education Act 1996.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Education, Laura Anne Jones MS said:
“It is very concerning to read the letter, which illustrates the desperate situation schools are in, the lack of funding is threatening the very safety of children in Wales.
“We know that 5p in every pound that is meant for our children’s education doesn’t reach the classroom and instead goes on Labour’s pet projects. On top of this the Labour Government has cut the education budget for the next year.
“Schools are also struggling to balance their budgets having to expand kitchens to provide free school meals but typical of this Welsh Government they make grand statements but don’t actually back it up with enough funding, forcing schools to choose between food and books.
“This worrying state further highlights the continuous failures by the Welsh Government in education.”
