At First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) today, Darren Millar MS challenged the First Minister to explain her party’s previous opposition to Welsh Conservative calls for a grooming gangs inquiry in Wales.
The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives has welcomed the fact that the UK Government has finally agreed to a national inquiry into grooming gangs, but called the news “long overdue”.
Commenting, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS said:
“The evidence is clear, child sexual exploitation has been happening here in Wales. I welcome Keir Starmer’s national inquiry U-turn and support for the inquiry from the First Minister, overdue though it is.
“Brave victims and their families deserve nothing less than the full cooperation of the Welsh Government with the upcoming UK inquiry, though I was disappointed to hear the First Minister fail to commit to the publication of Welsh Government correspondence with the police.
“Fear of being accused of racism should no longer deter authorities from acting. The First Minister must instruct all bodies funded by the Welsh Government to release all requested documents, regardless of the ethnicity of the perpetrators.”
