At First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) today, Darren Millar MS challenged the Deputy First Minister to address the former Health Minister, now First Minister’s promise to eliminate two-year NHS treatment waits by March 2023.

8,703 patients are waiting over two years, as of the latest statistics, whereas in England, the figure is just 168, despite their population being 18-times larger.

The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives has reiterated calls for the declaration of a health emergency to ensure that the resources and apparatus of Government is directed at tackling these excessive treatment waits.

Commenting, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS said:

“The First Minister has broken her promises to patients and the people of Wales time and again.

“It is completely unacceptable that patients in Wales are still nearly 500 times more likely to wait for two years or more for treatment than patients over the border in England.

“Only the Welsh Conservatives will end the crisis in our Welsh NHS by declaring a health emergency as part of our plan to fix Wales.”
