FAW TO PROTECT WOMEN’S FOOTBALL

The Football Association of Wales has announced it will change its rules to protect women’s football.

The FAW has written to Welsh Conservative MS Natasha Asghar to confirm that eligibility for competitive football will now be determined by biological sex assigned at birth.

The MS for Casnewydd Islwyn wrote the FAW urging them to amend their guidance following the Supreme Court ruling,

Natasha Asghar hailed the announcement as a significant victory in protecting women’s rights.

Natasha Asghar MS, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Care, said:

”I’m delighted that the Football Association of Wales has responded positively to my campaign and agreed to change its guidelines so biological males cannot play in women’s football.

“This means that women and girls can have confidence that women’s football remains a fair and protected place.

“This is a victory for fairness, women and women’s rights.  I and the entire Welsh Conservative team will continue to champion women’s rights and ensure that women and girls have access to safe spaces.

“I hope other sporting organisations across Wales and the UK will follow the FAW’s lead.”
