Andrew RT Davies has blasted Labour and Plaid Cymru’s farming policies in a column for GB News.
Writing about recent large meetings of farmers in Wales who are dissatisfied with Welsh Government farming policies, Davies says Plaid Cymru must “carry the can” for the policies, and lambasts Plaid for trying to “portray themselves as friends of farmers” despite supporting the Labour Welsh Government.
He also warns politicians against making farmers “losers in a cynical electoral calculation”.
Writing about the Sustainable Farming Scheme, Andrew RT Davies said:
“To force farmers to write off a massive chunk of their land so Labour can check some green boxes might satisfy a baying mob of eco-warriors, but it will be hugely damaging to our rural economy.”
On Plaid Cymru’s support for the Welsh Government, Davies added:
“They have to carry the can for this…While Plaid politicians portray themselves as friends of farmers, once they’re back in Cardiff Bay, they’re supporting a Welsh Government that is slashing the rural budget and is imposing these barmy policies on our farmers.”
On farming policies more widely, Davies said:
“Metropolitan politicians would be well advised not to pick on farmers, or to make them losers in a cynical electoral calculation.”
