In the Senedd today, Samuel Kurtz MS raised a Topical Question on the closure of Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire, with Labour’s Economy Cabinet Secretary.
The largest theme park in Wales announced it was closing down with immediate effect after almost 40 years.
Commenting following the exchange, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Energy, Samuel Kurtz MS said:
“This is a devastating closure of such a special place for people across Wales.
“It should come as no surprise to anyone the reasons cited by Oakwood’s parent company for this closure, including the harmful effects of Labour’s decision to increase national insurance. The Welsh Government need to convene an urgent meeting with other large attractions from across Wales to ensure that this isn’t the start of a sad trend of other closures.
“I will now work hard to support the staff into new employment and find a new buyer for the site to ensure that it isn’t left derelict.”
