Angela Burns MS – the Shadow Minister for Health – has described the latest Covid-19 testing figure as “… an improvement, but dangerously below capacity”.
The latest number of tests conducted stands on May 11 is 1,193, according to Public Health Wales’ Rapid COVID-19 Surveillance, which is approximately just one-fifth of the capacity (5,330 tests a day) actually being delivered.
Mrs Burns said:
“We need to look for hope, and these figures are an improvement, but around 20 percent of capacity is dangerously below what should be happening here, and of course even further below the 9,000 tests a day the Health Minister said Wales would have by the end of April.
“We need to get closer to the daily capacity here in Wales – and fast – as well as hoping that Public Health Wales and the Minister are finally singing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to testing."
