The Welsh Government has today (April 27) announced an extension of the “Death in Service” benefits scheme for frontline staff in the fight against Covid-19 (Coronavirus) for frontline NHS Wales and social care staff
Under the scheme, any eligible beneficiaries can receive a one-off sum of £60,000 and will apply particularly to those working in frontline roles and locations where personal care is provided to individuals who may have contracted Covid-19 (Coronavirus).
Commenting, Angela Burns AM – the Shadow Health Minister – said:
“Our frontline NHS and social are staff are doing a magnificent job as the pandemic progresses, so naturally, I welcome – in broad terms - this announcement, which will no doubt offer some comfort to those frontline staff and their families.
However, the devil is always in the detail, and we need to see more of it before it can reasonably be fully welcomed.
“And the Health Minister, in his announcement, said as much, stating that the Welsh Government will ‘… work together with our key partners on the detail of the scheme and how it will apply in operation Wales’.
“So, we look forward to full details being determined and released as soon as possible.”
