Mohammad Asghar AM, the Shadow Minister for Faith, today (March 20) echoed the advice of faith leaders for people in Wales to do all they can to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus).
Mr Asghar, a Welsh Conservative, said:
“Of course, at a time like this – unprecedented, thankfully, in the lives of most of us – it is perhaps natural for people of faith to turn or maybe even return to their religion.
“However, at the same time, we have been given, and must take heed of, the advice given to us by medical and scientific experts to stay away from large public gatherings, and this extends of course to going to where people of faith worship.
“This will be hard for many people, and for some, their weekly worship – whatever their religion and wherever they practise it – can be a lifeline, perhaps their only significant contact with others in a week. But the evidence is there, and it has been repeated by faith leaders, to stay at home.
“We must do this for the sake of our families, our communities, for our country, and look forward to the day when we can freely congregate again to worship when this terrible pandemic has passed.”
