Commenting on the announcement from the Welsh Government of a consultation on restricting mobile phones in schools, Sam Rowlands MS, Shadow Minister for Education and Families, said:
“The Welsh Conservatives have long pointed out the risks to children and young people of excessive mobile phone use and social media.
“Where they have been introduced, mobile phone restrictions are widely seen to have improved pupil behaviour, reduced distractions and helped tackle bullying.
“It’s important that the Welsh Government shows leadership by providing national guidance rather than leaving decisions to individual schools and I welcome the Welsh Government’s commitment to this.”
