Congestion charge plans unfair and unrealistic

Responding to his Spokesperson’s Questions to Labour’s Cabinet Secretary for Transport. Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Peter Fox MS, highlighted the Welsh Labour Government's ongoing push to decarbonise through reducing reliance on private vehicles despite the infrastructure not being in place to support such a move. Additionally, Peter criticised proposals like Cardiff Council's congestion charge, calling them unfair and unrealistic without adequate public transport alternatives.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Peter Fox MS, said:

"The Welsh Government and Cardiff Council are putting the cart before the horse by proposing a congestion charge in the capital while public transport remains woefully inadequate.

"Wales has some of the worst-performing train stations in Great Britain, with almost 12% of journeys delayed or cancelled. For many commuters, public transport is simply not an option.

“Introducing a congestion charge punishes hard-working families who are already facing the cost-of-living crisis and have no viable alternatives for travel. The Labour Government and local councils must focus on fixing and upgrading public transport before penalising commuters."
