Shadow Minister for Education, Suzy Davies AM, has welcomed the latest package of support for pupils in England by the UK Government and has called for the same in Wales.
She said: “I welcome the UK Government’s pioneering new support package for pupils from deprived backgrounds and carer leavers in England who’re without internet being given access with 4G routers, as well as being exempted from data charges when accessing educational resources.
“This package will enable those children, who would have been unable to do so, to access vital material online which will allow them to continue developing whilst learning from home. The plan will also provide the pupils with laptops and tablets.
“It goes without saying how important a good education is, and that’s why I’m calling on the Welsh Government to have conversations with telecom providers to secure the same for Welsh pupils.
“This pandemic has caused major problems for our young people, so it’s vital we do not let them down.”
