Andrew RT Davies has today (March 31) blasted the Welsh Labour Government’s approach to the agricultural sector in Wales, and said the administration has a “… blind spot when it comes to rural communities”.
It comes a week after a promised statement from the administration on agricultural policy failed to be delivered, as did a response to Mr Davies questions about Nitrate Vulnerable Zones.
Mr Davies called on the government to take positive action to support farmers in Wales, saying:
“We need answers.
We need answers, and, and we need to be given confidence by the Minister for Rural Affairs that she is is batting for our farmers.
“The Minister has been caught off guard by the Covid-19 pandemic, and I have to question if she is really up to her job.”
Mr Davies repeated his call to the Minister, and said:
“We need positive action on rural payments, on inspections, on ensuring food security, and to guarantee that food goes onto our tables.
“Instead, we have nothing but a deathly silence from the Minister, and it’s just not good enough.
“So, today, I am calling on the First Minister to step in, take charge of rural affairs in Wales, and sort it out.”
